JAL Scholarship Background

Brother Jeffrey Alan Lamar was born on September 25 1960 to the late Cicero Lamar Sr. and Julia B. Heggs in Columbus, Ohio. Brother Lamar later moved to Macon Georgia and graduated from Southwest High School. He was an outstanding member of his high school band and ultimately when on to be a member of the Fame Marching 100. Brother Lamar displayed his musical talent as a sousaphone player performing with both the Marching 100 and Symphonic bands.

His most prestigious organizational membership was no doubt when he became a member of the Beta Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha. As a member of the esteemed Apocalyptic Knights, Spring 1979, it was clear from day one that Brother Lamar was going to be a Brothers, Brother. He served as Chapter President from 1982 to 1983 and is a charter member of the Rho Kappa Lambda Chapter in Gwinnett County, Georgia. He had the uncanny ability to make connections across generational lines young and old creating a true brother hood environment in any scenario. He pushed the envelope and challenge brothers to uphold the Aims of our dear fraternity.

Brother Lamar was employed by FAMU as a Coordinator of Computer Applications. He was also an integral part of the Fresh Start Stem Bridge Program teaching the professional development component of the program. His efforts were key in the successful completion and presentation of the cohort’s Capstone projects to the Department of Navy and HBCU-MSI program. Brother Lamar was a special Alpha man and truly lived up to the fraternity’s motto “First of all; Servants of all; We shall transcend all”
